Vernon's Triumph was published in Stars of Magic in 1946.  Card is selected and put back in deck. Deck is mixed, some face up and some face down. A mess!!.  Then the deck is ribbon spread out on the table and all the cards are now face up except for one.  It is the selected card.  All the other cards have straightened themselves out.
