    A Gift of the Gods-Story of Chung Ling Soo-Val Andrews=Goodliffe Publ-1981--
(No Reserve-Bid & the Item Will Sell)
ITEM:   This is a hard card cover book, with dust jacket, A Gift of the Gods The Story of Chung Ling Soo, Marvelous Chinese Conjuror, by Val Andrews, a Goodliffe Publication, 1981.
Chung Ling Soo was not only a great magician and illusionist, but an enigmatic personality whose fantastic impersonation fooled millions, just as thoroughly as did his greatest stage mysteries. His story is told by Val Andrews in a racy, exciting and sometimes moving style. The story progresses from the time young Bob Robinson and his diminutive wife ‘Dot’ played small-town American theatres, to the tragic day in 1918 when Chung Ling Soo was shot and killed on the stage of the Wood Green Empire in London. Only long research and consultation with Soo’s son, Hector Robinson, has enabled the author to bring you this vivid story of a man, a magician, and an era of the past. Chung Ling Soo was a tremendous publicist and his theatrical posters are among some of the finest and most colorful ever produced. The pages of this book are interleaved with more than four dozen full color reproductions of these magnificent posters.
This copy is from the magic collection of my friend Stanley Palm.  When  staying with him at his apartment in Brooklyn, NY, I would walk past a large hall closet, filled with mailing tubes.  He would tell me that they were some of his magic posters.  I did not realize all that he had. This was his copy of the Soo Book that had color photos of most all of the beautiful and colorful Soo posters.   Stanley used this book as his checklist of Soo posters, as he sold them over the years. His magic collection was his retirement fund.  When he sold a Soo poster, he would write in black ink on the top of the page "
    Sold
".  On some he would write the name of the person to whom he sold the poster, and sometimes the date sold, but never the prices.  Of the over four dozen full color reproductions, Stanley had owned 42 Soo Posters.  It was an amazing collection.  I am selling this for his Cousin, who took care of him in the last few years of his life.
You can find copies on the AddAll on-line book search selling for to 0.  Our starting bid is in the middle, and there is no reserve. Bid and the item will sell.
